Fanjing Mountain is a National Nature Reserve in China and a World Natural Heritage. Fanjing Mountain is located in Tongren, Guizhou Province. Fanjing Mountain, named after “Brahma Pure Land”, is located at the junction of Yinjiang, Jiangkou and Songtao (southwest) counties in Tongren City, Guizhou Province, at north latitude 27°49’50”-28°1’30”. East longitude 108°45’55”-108°48’30”, close to Jiangkou County, southeast of Yinjiang County, and southwest of Songtao County. It is the main peak of the Wuling Mountains and is a Buddhist temple and nature reserve in China, located in the middle of the Tongren area.
The total area of Fanjing Mountain is 775.14 square kilometers, the heritage site area is 402.75 square kilometers, and the buffer area is 372.39 square kilometers. The main protection objects are rare wild animals and plants and native forest ecosystems represented by the Guizhou golden monkey and dove tree. The forest coverage rate is 97.6%, and there are more than 2,000 species of plants, 31 species of plants under state protection, 801 species of animals, and 19 species of animals under state protection. Fanjing Mountain was rated as a national 5A tourist attraction on October 17, 2018, a National Nature Reserve, and was rated as one of the top ten summer resort mountains in China on June 30, 2008. China’s famous Maitreya Bodhisattva Dojo , a member of the international “Man and the Biosphere Conservation Network” (MAB), and a world natural heritage recognized by the 42nd World Heritage Conference. On July 2, 2018, Fanjing Mountain in China’s Guizhou Province was inscribed on the World Natural Heritage List at the World Heritage Conference in Manama, Bahrain.
Fanjing Mountain has the largest and well-protected virgin forest ecosystem at the same latitude in the world, the largest dove tree (pigeon tree) forest in the world, and the only habitat for the Guizhou golden monkey. In 1986, it joined the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
